Melbourne Music Week returns with three-month-long extended program

After its traditional ten-day November program was scrapped this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Melbourne Music Week organisers have announced a three-month-long extended program to kickstart the city’s live music scene.

Kicking off next week and running until late February, the marathon edition of the annual festival will feature 330 artists over 200 events, spread across 35 locations and venues throughout the city. These include the Melbourne Recital Hall, The Forum, Max Watt’s, The Curtin, Cherry Bar and more.

The all-Australian lineup includes the likes of Baker Boy, Alice Skye, Cable Ties, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Private Function, High Tension, Adalita, Blake Scott, Mick Harvey and Banoffee, with more set to be announced next month.

In addition to headline shows and talks, the program also takes in larger events such as the 2020 Music Victoria Awards and Wominjeka. The latter is a celebration of First Nations artists with a lineup curated by Kee’ahn that will launch MMW next week.

There’s a mix of both free and ticketed events, with a handful of events also streaming live online. See the full program and more information here.

This year’s MMW marks the first major live music event in Victoria since the state’s months-long lockdown. Organisers say all events will be run in accordance with COVID-safe protocols, including seated shows and multiple sessions to maximise availability.
